It’s likely that the camera you use the most is the one built into your smartphone. As a result, there are now several useful accessories available that can make it easier to capture photos and videos using these devices. One such accessory is the VEO BT-11 from Vanguard, which is a smartphone remote that connects to your device via Bluetooth. However, considering that most smartphones already have self-timers built-in, is this an accessory that we all truly need?

Vanguard VEO BT-11Handling and Features

The Vanguard VEO BT-11 Remote Control pairs with any IOS or Android smartphone and when pressed, will trigger the shutter to capture a photo or record a video. It’s compact in size and lightweight. Plus, it’s really easy to use.

Key Features:

  • Easy to pair
  • Simple to use
  • Childproof (battery case screws shut)
  • Lightweight and portable
  • Cheap

Vanguard VEO BT-11 Performance

The Vanguard VEO BT-11 Remote Control does exactly what it is intended to do in a really easy and inexpensive way.

Its compact size means it easily fits in a pocket or camera bag and the simple two-button design with one on/off switch means it’s really easy to operate. To connect it to your smartphone, all you need to do is switch the device on and open your phone’s Bluetooth settings, find the device’s name, select it and you’re connected. I connected it to my iPhone 14 and it was linked in a matter of seconds. All you then have to do is frame your shot and click the correct shutter button to take a photo.

You might be wondering why you need such a device when most smartphones have self-timers but the VEO BT-11 removes the need to touch your smartphone so you won’t introduce shake. It also means you don’t have to race around to get into a group photo as you can discreetly hold the remote while you’re in the frame and click the remote shutter button. It’s also great for vloggers who may need to stop/start recording footage or when conducting interviews. You can also attach the Vanguard VEO BT-11 to a monopod leg from a VEO 3 series tripod to turn it into a selfie stick or set your smartphone up on a tripod with an accessory such as the VEO SPH Smartphone Holder and trigger the shutter from further away.

It’s great to see that the battery case is secured by a screw meaning children won’t be able to access it and swallow the battery (a feature that’s not seen on all remote controls) and the price is great, too.

Value For Money

The Vanguard VEO BT-11 is priced at £12.99 which isn’t expensive by any means. A quick look on the internet shows Bluetooth remotes by respected brands available for around the same price. There are some less expensive units available but not all of them offer iOS and Android compatibility.

The Vanguard VEO BT-11 Remote Control is an inexpensive and easy way to remotely trigger the shutter on your smartphone. It will eliminate shake when taking a photo using a tripod and with some brands supplying a Bluetooth remote with their Smartphone kits, it’s a small but worthwhile investment.

Vanguard VEO BT-11 Pros

  • Simple to connect
  • Lightweight
  • Portable

Vanguard VEO BT-11 Cons

  • Some will argue they can simply use the built-in self-timer
