The School of Photography: Beginner's Guide Photography Book Review
In a world where technology is King and we’re all hooked to our smartphones, there’s something quite therapeutic about picking up a book, sitting down with a cuppa and perusing it. Now, I love a good ‘Who done it?’ but I also like to learn new things or expand my knowledge on topics I may think I already know plenty about so, I picked up The School of Photography’s latest book – The School of Photography: Beginner’s Guide.
‘The School of Photography: Beginner’s Guide’ is an update/redesign of an already popular technique-based, educational book of the same name. Its purpose is to provide a comprehensive guide to photography for beginner or intermediate photographers.
Written by Marc Newton, it’s an easy-to-follow guide that’s written well; providing all of the basic knowledge those new to photography need to get them off the start line.
As well as being a great reference guide full of instruction, the book also features tasks for you to complete so you can demonstrate to yourself that you do fully understand the processes that you have learnt. I like that as well as asking questions, you are given the answers so you’re not left wondering if you are correct.
All of the major photography subject areas are covered from understanding your camera kit to ISO, metering, shutter speeds, image resolution and post-production (to name but a few).
Chapters are comprehensive and not too long so you could work through one section and come back to do another part later in the day/week. Pages aren’t too overcrowded with information either so it’s easy to digest what you are reading and they’re well illustrated.
If you know someone who will be starting a photography course this September, it would be a great Summer purchase that they can read to give them some basic knowledge before their lessons start. Likewise, it would be a lovely gift for a photography fan and at under £15, it’s not expensive either.
We said that The School of Photography: Beginner’s Guide wants to ‘provide a comprehensive guide to photography’ and it does that, and more, in an easy-to-follow way that those learning the art of photography will love.
The School of Photography: Beginner’s Guide is available to buy now on Amazon for £14.99.
