Sony A6700 APS-C Camera Announced

With an APS-C crop sensor, this new Sony A6700 is aimed squarely at the emerging market for hybrid vlogging cameras/stills cameras. The design is similar to the existing range of mirrorless crop sensor bodies, with several significant improvements.

An initial impression is of a slightly more bulky body, with a flip-out screen, built-in EVF and a more substantial hand grip. The improvements include:

• A more tactile feel to the buttons, which protrude more and in some cases have a raised centre for easier location.
• The EVF has improved clarity, despite being of slightly lower resolution than some of the existing range.
• The four-way controller is surrounded by a rotating dial, but this is firmer in its action and avoids the tendency for settings to be accidentally altered.
• Front and rear dials are provided. The rear dial is split and is a two-tier design covering mode settings (such as Av, Tv, etc.) and a selection of stills or video shooting.
• The TFT monitor is touch sensitive.
• There is just 1 SD card slot as this helps to keep the bulk of the camera down.
• Prioritisation of video shooting.

New Sony ECM-M1 Field Microphone

Alongside the A6700, a new ECM-M1 mike has been introduced that’s intended for the highest quality and is equally suitable for advanced freelancers, young creators or beginners. It is super sharp and uses an 8-capsule construction. The 8-capsule construction gives superior reproduction, especially in noisy environments or where wind noise is obtrusive.
