The RiBL Aura MVL5 lighting kit is a portable lighting kit that’s great for video/vlogging as well as photography. It’s a new kit that’s available for a reasonable price so we’ve been taking a closer look to find out just how useful it is.

It features a 3200-5600K Bi-Colour temperature range, a 9.5W power output and an 8000mAh battery that will give you up to 1.5 hours of power without connecting it to mains. To charge the LED light, you use the provided DC power cable.

RiBL Aura MVL5 LED Lighting Kit Ease Of Use & Performance

The RiBL Aura MVL5 LED lighting kit features the new RiBL Aura MVL5 LED photo and video light which is compact in size and equally lightweight which makes transportation and set-up easy. Along with the LED panel, you get an extendable three-section aluminium column with rubber twist locks and an integrated C-clamp so the kit can be secured to tables up to 50mm in depth. There’s also a detachable micro ball head on the column which gives you 360-degree panning. Power is supplied by the built-in 8000mAh battery or via mains DC (power adapter included). 

Before looking more closely at how the lighting kit works, it’s worth mentioning how well-packed the kit is when it arrives. A sturdy box opens to thick, sponge padding that’s strong and holds all of the elements of the kit securely. In fact, for storage, it’s worth keeping the box and internal packing just to keep everything safe and in one place.

Once removed from the box, you have to secure the LED panel to the aluminium column which is easily screwed into place. Once tightened, it feels very secure but quite top-heavy when holding it hand-held. However, clamp it to a surface with the integrated C-clamp and the whole kit feels very secure. You can adjust the C-clamp so it secures to surfaces that are up to 50mm thick so a dining room table was no problem for it. 

The column can be adjusted from 37cm to 96cm making it a versatile lighting kit that can be used for tabletop photography or as a video light for vlogging. The height is adjusted by the rubber twist locks that allow you to get a good grip and are easy to turn. Once you have set the working height, you can adjust the Micro Ball Head and/or 90-degree portrait notch to the angle you require. The integrated ball head does allow for quite precise adjustments making the lighting kit a very flexible option. 

The 8000mAh battery offers up to 1.5-hours of power without needing to plug the panel into mains which is useful but we can see some vloggers needing a slightly better battery life. Plug the panel into the mains via the provided adapter and you can use the lighting kit while the battery is charging (it takes around 2 hours to charge fully). 

You can see how much battery power is left via the rear LED display that’s big and bright. Here’s where you also see what brightness level and colour temperature the LED is set at. Colour balance adjustments are stepless and range from 3200-5600K. You adjust both colour balance and brightness via controls found on the side of the LED panel. 

The RiBL Aura MVL5 features 192 LEDs (Bi-Colour with 96 white and 96 yellow LEDs) and offers stepless brightness control up to 450 LUX at 1m. The light from the panel is uniform and diffused nicely. It can also be lovely and soft when set at the right level but when you need a stronger light, the max option is bright. The variable colour temperature settings on offer are useful, too. 

We can see the RiBL Aura MVL5 LED lighting kit being useful for tabletop photography, macro work and vlogging in particular. Plus, there’s no reason you can’t use it day-to-day as a reading lamp or when you’re doing intricate work (it’s great for Lego construction!). 

Overall, the RiBL Aura MVL5 LED lighting kit is constructed well, is easy to use and has multiple uses. 

Value For Money

The RiBL Aura MVL5 LED lighting kit is priced at £79.90 which we think is good value for money. There are less expensive models available in stores such as Amazon but we’ve not tested these models so can’t comment on their performance. Likewise, there are more expensive options available too.
