[SECTION]INTRODUCTION[/SECTION]

OPPO Reno10

The Oppo Reno 10 is a mid-range smartphone which, on paper, has quite a bit to offer for a reasonable amount of money. However, when put to the test, is the image quality up to par and is it a smartphone we’ll be reaching for before the likes of the Google Pixels and other popular mid-range brands?

Oppo Reno 10 5G Features

We’re a photography website so discussing the camera specs of the Oppo Reno 10 before everything else makes sense so that’s where we are starting and what an impressive start (on paper) it is. You don’t find many mid-range smartphones with a telephoto camera and the Oppo Reno 10 gives you a 32MP Telephoto Portrait lens alongside a 64MP main camera, 112-degree ultra-wide-angle camera and a 32MP selfie camera cut out of the 6.7-inch display. A Sony IMX709 sensor is built-in which Oppo says will allow for a 35% reduction in Noise and a 60% increase in light sensitivity when using the 2x telephoto camera. Various shooting modes are built-in and video is captured in 4K at 30fps with the rear camera.

The battery is rated at 5000mAh and rapid charging is supported (another neat feature to see on a mid-range smartphone). The Oppo Reno 10 comes in a silvery grey finish with 8GB RAM and 256GB Memory capacity.

Oppo Reno 10 5G Handling

OPPO Reno10

The Oppo Reno 10 is a lovely-looking smartphone with a modern design. The silvery grey look, as Oppo describes it, catches the light so it almost gleams and I like that a lot. The finish also seems to be resistant to fingerprint smudges which is great. It actually makes the smartphone look much more expensive than it is and the oval rear camera unit is a design we don’t normally see which allows it to stand out from the crowd. The frame is plastic and doesn’t look quite as good as the rear of the smartphone but who looks that closely at the edges anyway? The sides are where you find the volume/power buttons which fall under fingers nicely but my hand placement did keep catching the bottom of the rear camera unit. On the bottom is a USB-C port but you don’t get a headphone socket.

In the hand, the Oppo Reno 10 feels light but well made and it’s not too big, having a comparable size to most other smartphones. There’s a 6.7-inch OLED display built-in which offers decent colour accuracy and brightness levels.

You get an IPX4 dust and water resistance rating which is good to see but not quite as impressive as the likes of the Pixel 7a.

Onto the camera unit which offers a 2x telephoto camera which is a rare thing on a mid-range smartphone. Even though you can use it for zooming in on objects, Oppo has named the feature ‘telephoto portrait’ so it’s designed more so for capturing close-up portraits without having to get too close.

As well as the 32MP f/2.0 telephoto camera you get a Main 64MP f/1.7 with AF and an Ultra-Wide 8MP f/2.2. On the front is a 32MP f/2.4 camera.

The camera app follows the generic design of all camera apps and you have the following modes built-in: Photos, videos, night photos, portraits, professional photos, panorama, super text, Google Lens, cute shots, dual-view video, ultra-clear image quality, high pixel mode, time-lapse photography and slow motion.

Camera Specs:

  • Rear Camera: Main 64MP f/1.7 with AF, Telephoto 32MP f/2.0 with AF and Ultra-Wide 8MP f/2.2.
  • Front Camera: 32MP f/2.4
  • 2X hybrid optical zoom and uo tp 20x digital zoom
  • Use the telephoto lens when in portrait mode

Battery life –  The battery is rated at 500mAh and it easily lasts a full day’s usage. Rapid 67W wired charging is supported, too, and Oppo actually provides the charger/cable which is a rare thing nowadays.

[SECTION]PERFORMANCE[/SECTION]

Oppo Reno 10 5G Performance

The performance section is where we look at the image quality performance of the camera. Additional sample photos and product shots are available in the Equipment Database, where you can add your own review, photos and product ratings.

OPPO Reno10 Sample Photos

Sample Photos – Colour accuracy is spot-on with the Oppo Reno 10 with natural-looking tones captured rather than over-saturated, bright blues/greens appearing in shots. When the dynamic range is wide, some areas can look over-sharpened and highlights aren’t handled as well but overall, performance is good. Bokeh can be introduced and with it comes lovely out-of-focus detailing that allows your subject to stand out from the frame.

OPPO Reno10 Lens test images

Lens Performance – The ultra-wide lens doesn’t produce the best images we’ve ever seen from a lens of this type but they’re not terrible and are usable. This camera in particular seems to struggle with wide dynamic range with brighter areas appearing washed out. Up to 2X does a decent job in terms of detail, sharpness and colour accuracy but as expected, digital zoom should be avoided where possible. Although, the 5X zoom actually isn’t too bad.

OPPO Reno10 Digital filters

Digital Filters – A good selection of digital filters are built in which you can see above.

Panoramas – Panoramic images stitch well but mixed lighting can be problematic with purple fringing appearing and detailing looking over-sharpened.

Video – Video is captured at 4K@30fps, 1080P@60fps/30fps, and 720P@60fps/30fps. With the option to use OIS and EIS on select formats as follows:

  • Super steady shot supports EIS 1080P@60fps only.
  • Video zoom shot supports 1080P@30fps and 720P@30fps.
  • Slow-motion video supports 1080P@120fps/480fps, and 720P@240fps/960fps.
  • Time-lapse photography supports 1080P@30fps.
  • Dual-view video supports 1080P@30fps.

Value For Money

The Oppo Reno 10 5G is currently priced at £399 on the Oppo website which is very reasonable for a mid-range smartphone. Other mid-range smartphones include the Google Pixel 7a priced at £449, Samsung Galaxy A54 and the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Oppo Reno 10 5G Verdict

The Oppo Reno 10 5G is a mid-range smartphone that ticks plenty of boxes with its price, telephoto lens and decent battery particularly standing out. It’s also a lovely-looking device but with so much competition out there, it just doesn’t do quite enough to stand out. However, as an alternative option, the Oppo Reno 10 5G is worth a look.

  • Price
