Nikon Reveals Hilarious Images In The Running For The 2024 Comedy Wildlife Awards

With only one month to go to enter the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards, Nikon has today published a selection of the most amusing entries from 2024, including everything from a three headed giraffe to rather cool looking sloth.
Now in its 10th year, the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards has received thousands of entries from around the world – catching some of wildlife’s funniest moments on camera. Some of the most comical images to date have been released to inspire both professional and amateur photographers to enter their own shots before the closing date of July 31st.
The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards was co-founded in 2015 by professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam, who wanted to create a competition that focused on the lighter side of wildlife photography, while also promoting the conservation of wildlife and habitats through humour. This year, the competition is in partnership with UK conservation charity, Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN), who support conservation leaders working in their home countries across the Global South. Over the last 30 years, it has channelled £20 million to more than 200 conservationists in 90 countries, and this competition will help shine a light on the important work they do.
This year, Nikon Creators Cameron Whitnall, Lara Jackson and Roxy Furman join a diverse judging panel reviewing the shortlist. They’ll analyse entries alongside a regular cohort of expert judges, including TV presenter Kate Humble, actor and comedian Hugh Dennis, world renowned wildlife photographers Daisy Gilardini and Will Burrard-Lucas, and Will Travers OBE of The Born Free Foundation. The lineup is completed by Managing Director of Affinity Photo, Ashley Hewson, and The Economist’s picture editor Celina Dunlop.

Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe Senior General Manager Marketing says: “It’s a pleasure to be working with the Comedy Wildlife team – fantastic partners who share our commitment to generating vital awareness of conservation through the power of photography. With only one month to go to enter the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards, we’ve loved seeing all the hilarious entries so far, and look forward to receiving more entertaining wildlife shots over the next month”.
As always, the competition is open to the public and remains free to enter. The top winning image will be taken on a once in a lifetime safari in the Maasai Mara in Kenya, with Alex Walker’s Serian, as well as a handmade trophy from The Wonder Workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Junior Category winner will win a Nikon Z 30 camera, while the Young Photographer winner will receive a Nikon Z 8 kit and an iPad complete with the latest Affinity Photo editing software. All category winners will receive a camera bag from ThinkTANK.
In celebration of a decade of Comedy Wildlife, and in recognition of Nikon’s partnership with the award, this year there will be an exclusive exhibition showcasing the 2024 Award Finalists. This distinguished event will be held at the Gallery@Oxo in London from December 10th-16th, with the announcement of the competition winners taking place at the exhibition itself. This free-to-enter exhibition will provide a unique opportunity for attendees to view these extraordinary wildlife photographs up close and to appreciate the exceptional talent of the photographers. All are welcome to join us in this in-person celebration of wildlife artistry and conservation.
The competition categories include:
