  • New Dutch platform to launch in what is already the most active e-commerce market in mainland Europe
  • Consumer demand for used is high and growing in the Netherlands, driven by socially conscious shoppers
  • Netherlands market will be served by MPB’s existing EU-based circular commerce centre

11 March 2024, Brighton UK: MPB, the largest global platform to buy, sell and trade used photo and video gear, announces it has expanded into the Netherlands, launching a new Dutch platform.

Dutch buyers and sellers will have access to a dedicated local version of the platform, while being served by the company’s existing Circular Commerce Centre in Berlin.

MPB, which also has operations in the UK and US, is looking to capitalise on the strong and growing local e-commerce market. Revenue from e-commerce in the Netherlands is expected to grow annually by an average of 12% (CAGR 2022-2025), resulting in a projected market size of more than £33Bn by 2025.

There is clear appetite from consumers to buy used in the Netherlands, with three in four (75%) buyers stating they would be open to purchasing second-hand. Around 30% of consumers had either bought or sold used products within a month of being surveyed (Statista), and MPB research found that almost 30% of consumers planned to gift used items for Christmas 2023.

Alongside this, nearly one in four (22%) consumers in the market identified themselves within an emerging ‘socially conscious shopper’ category, following the pandemic. MPB anticipates this demographic is only likely to have increased with growing environmental and social concerns from buyers reflected internationally.

Matt Barker, CEO, MPB said: “The launch of our Dutch platform is another major moment for MPB as we look to solidify our position as the world’s number one destination for buying and selling used photo and video equipment.

“With a growing market of second-hand buyers and socially-conscious consumers contributing to the circular economy by selling their unused items, the Netherlands represents a significant opportunity for us to help bring used photography and videography kit to consumers and enthusiasts, and continue the global expansion of our business.”
