FUJIFILM Corporation (President & CEO, Representative Director: Teiichi Goto) has announced the latest addition to its mirrorless digital camera GFX Series, the FUJIFILM GFX100S II (GFX100S II), equipped with a large format sensor approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm full-frame sensor.

The GFX100S II features a newly developed 102MP high-speed image sensor, the GFX 102MP CMOS II, and Fujifilm’s latest high-speed image processing engine, the X-Processor 5, all housed within a compact body weighing approximately 883g, making it the lightest in the 102MP large format GFX Series. The camera is also equipped with a powerful image stabiliser and a high-speed, high-precision autofocus function, enhancing the user experience and delivering unparalleled image quality.

This mirrorless digital camera delivers rich tonal gradations and shallow depth of field, and features AI-based subject detection AF – a high-speed, highly precise AF that has been significantly improved compared to the previous model. With this fast and precise AF and improved continuous shooting speed of up to 7.0 frames per second, the GFX100S II accurately captures moving subjects like never before. The in-body image stabilisation function has also been improved to 5-axis with a maximum of 8 stops – achieving the highest performance in the GFX Series. With these features packed into a lightweight and compact body weighing approximately 883g, users can enjoy the extraordinary image quality of GFX in a wide range of situations. It also excels at producing smooth, colourful 4K/30P movies for high-quality image production.

Designed for both professional photographers and enthusiasts looking to explore the world of large format photography, the GFX100S II delivers extraordinary image rendering capabilities and improved portability.

PRODUCT FEATURES

Large format sensor with 102MP delivering an extraordinary level of image quality

  • Equipped with the newly developed 102MP large format sensor GFX 102MP CMOS II and the latest high-speed image processing engine X-Processor 5, the GFX100S II delivers breathtaking resolution, and the colour reproduction technology cultivated for many years in photographic film, accurately reproduces captured scenes down to the finest detail.
  • Improvements to the pixel structure have increased the number of saturated electrons in the new sensor, allowing ISO 80 to be used as the normal sensitivity. When set to ISO 80, the camera can shoot with an even wider dynamic range and lower noise than previous models.
  • The improved microlens of the new sensor increases the efficiency of light utilisation at the edge of the sensor, therefore enhancing image quality and AF accuracy at the periphery of the lens.
  • The GFX100S II is equipped with a total of 20 Film Simulation modes, including REALA ACE, which combines faithful colour reproduction and high contrast tonality. Users can choose from the Film Simulations to give images a diverse range of distinctive tones, as if they are changing photographic films.
  • The camera also includes a Pixel Shift Multi-Shot feature, which enables 4x resolution and faithful colour reproduction. The function controls the IBIS mechanism at an advanced level to shift the image sensor by 0.5 pixels at a time and shoot 16 RAW images in quick succession. The dedicated software ‘Pixel Shift Combiner’ is then used to combine the 16 RAW files to generate an approx. 400MP image (in High Resolution + Real Color mode). In addition, by changing the control method within the camera body and combining four RAW files shot by shifting one pixel at a time, an image of approximately 100 million pixels can be generated (in Real Color mode).

Powerful IBIS mechanism in a compact body

  • The camera is equipped with a meticulously designed IBIS. The combination of a gyro sensor and an acceleration sensor accurately captures even the slightest movement, and uses image information to detect blurring, thereby improving the accuracy of its correction. These features enable the camera to achieve 5-axis and up to 8.0-stop anti-shake performance, which is an evolution from previous models. This enables comfortable hand-held shooting even in low-light conditions.
  • While incorporating new features, the body maintains the same compact dimensions as its predecessor, measuring approximately 150mm in width, 104mm in height and 87mm in depth. The new model is also lighter than its predecessor, weighing approximately 883g, making it the lightest model in the GFX Series with a 102MP large-format sensor.
  • As with the flagship FUJIFILM GFX100 II model, the new camera also features the BISHAMON-TEXTM texture that enhances grip at various angles when holding the camera. These characteristics, in combination with the ergonomically designed grip shape, provide powerful support for hand-held photography.

Capture decisive moments with the enhanced high-speed, high-precision AF and continuous shooting performance

  • In addition to face and eye AF that has evolved through improved algorithms, the camera is equipped with subject detection AF by AI developed using deep learning technology. It detects animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects and drones. The camera automatically tracks the targeted subject while keeping it in focus, allowing the photographer to concentrate on the shutter release opportunity and composition. The camera also incorporates an AF prediction algorithm, surpassing previous models’ motion tracking abilities and enabling superior performance in fast-moving scenes.
  • The camera achieves continuous shooting at a maximum speed of 7.0 frames per second thanks to the improved readout speed of the newly developed high speed sensor GFX 102MP CMOS II and a new shutter drive that ensures users never miss a moment.
  • The camera is equipped with a 5.76-million dot high-resolution EVF with a high magnification ratio of 0.84x. The EVF suppresses image drift and distortion caused by misalignment of the pupil to achieve high visibility when using the viewfinder.

4K/30P movie recording capability, ensuring high-quality video production

  • ISO 100 can be used as the standard sensitivity thanks to the improved number of saturated electrons by the newly developed GFX 102MP CMOS II. This enables wide dynamic range and low noise shooting.
  • The camera features a tracking AF function during video recording; when using AF-C+Wide/Tracking AF, users can easily specify the subject to be tracked by touching the screen, even in situations involving multiple subjects.
  • Smooth 4K video recording at 30 frames per second. The camera can record 4K/30P 4:2:2 10bit to an SD card inside the camera. Additionally, Apple ProRes recording is possible by connecting an external SSD via USB Type-C.
  • The camera is equipped with 13+stop F-Log2 that allows recording of richly graded video and greatly improves flexibility in post-production. In addition, different video formats can be recorded and output on recording media and HDMI output. For example, users can record in F-Log2 on recording media while checking video using ‘film simulation’ on an external monitor.
  • The GFX100S II supports the Frame.io Camera to Cloud service. Video and still image files can be uploaded directly to Frame.io, dramatically speeding up the workflow from shooting to editing.
